It is brewed using a traditional decoction mash in which, a portion of the grain bill is boiled and added back to the main mash. Longer aging makes this beer exceptionally smooth.
Moat Bock – 8.5% a.b.v. – a hefty winter lager also brewed using a decoction mash. Deep bronze to almost reddish hue in color, malts are even more emphasized than in the Mai Bock. Hops are perceived but play a secondary role to the malty and viscous backbone of this lager.
Moat Belgian Triple – 8.9 % a.b.v. – a pale to amber colored Belgian inspired ale with yeast highlights of spice and fruit. The addtion of Belgian candy sugars adds potency and crispness and a wonderful caramel tone to this seasonal ale.
Moat Imperial Stout – 9.% a.b.v. our version of this classic export ale. Unlike most brewers we add a special decoction cycle to our brew day to increase the malty backbone to this once a year specialty. A generous amount of bittering hops balances well with the high roast, chocolate and black malt flavor. Viscosity is high and flavors improve as the ale warms in temperature.
Moat Apfel Ale – 5.0 % a.b.v. – this is our newest seasonal ale brewed once a year when local cider is available. The grain bill is light and malty and the cider makes up 20 % of the batch volume. Hop bitterness is low to allow the gentle apple aromas to float on your pallet.
Cask Ale – our cask ale is served via a traditional hand pump, which pulls the beer from cask to glass. These beers are served at cellar temperature 52* – 58 * and they are traditionally low in carbonation.
Patience is a virtue. Cask ales take a moment longer to pour but the results are a smooth full flavored rounded pint that many find irresistible
